Community & Donations
Why community support matters to a religious nonprofit, how the association approaches donations responsibly, and how to ask about giving.
Community support sustains a religious nonprofit
Local religious organizations are built and sustained by the people they serve. The Burmese Islamic Association of Colorado is no exception.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the association does not operate for profit. Maintaining a place of worship, supporting religious and spiritual development, and engaging responsibly with the community all require ongoing resources. Community support, whether through donations, donated property, or simply staying informed and connected, is what makes that work possible.
Ways community support helps
- Keeping a place of worship available, safe, and well maintained.
- Supporting religious learning and spiritual development.
- Allowing the association to communicate with and serve its community.
- Helping the organization meet its administrative responsibilities as a nonprofit.
In Islamic teaching, giving in charity (sadaqah) is a valued act of worship and an expression of care for others. Many people choose to express it through support for their local religious organization.
How we approach donations
The association treats every donation as a trust. Our approach is guided by a few clear principles.
Purpose
Donations are received to support the association's religious and community purposes as a nonprofit organization.
Records
Contributions are handled carefully, with appropriate records kept as part of responsible nonprofit administration.
Honesty
Donors' questions are answered directly and accurately. We do not make promises we cannot verify.
Accountability
The association is accountable to its community and subject to the rules that apply to 501(c)(3) organizations.
Transparency and accountability
Before giving to any nonprofit, it is sensible to confirm who the organization is. We make that easy by publishing our official details on every page of this site.
You can verify the association's tax-exempt status by searching for EIN 81-5216250 in the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search. If you need a written acknowledgment of a donation for your records, or have a question about the tax treatment of a gift, please contact the association. How donated property relates to our nonprofit purpose
One of the association's identified activities is the sale of donated property. When a supporter donates an item rather than money, selling that item allows the gift to be turned into resources for the organization.
This is a way of supporting a nonprofit religious organization. It is not a retail business, and this website does not sell items or operate an online store.
Before donating property
- Email us with a short description of the item you would like to donate.
- Wait for the association to confirm whether and how the item can be accepted.
- Ask any questions about how the donation will be handled before you hand it over.
Please do not leave items at the association's address without first making arrangements.
