Programs & Activities

The five areas of activity the association has identified as its responsibilities, what each one is for, and how to ask about current arrangements.

Overview

Our identified activities

The Burmese Islamic Association of Colorado has identified a focused set of activities as its responsibilities. Together they serve one purpose: supporting religious life and spiritual development while acting responsibly within the community.

This page explains what each activity is, why it matters, and how it relates to the association's mission. We do not publish schedules or arrangements on this page unless they have been confirmed by the association. For current times, availability, or participation details, please contact us and we will respond with accurate information.

Activity 01

Islamic Centre and Mosque Operations

Purpose

Operating an Islamic centre and mosque provides the community with a dedicated place for worship, learning, and gathering. It is the foundation on which the association's other religious activities rest.

What operating a centre involves

  • Maintaining the space so that it is clean, safe, orderly, and suitable for worship.
  • Organizing the use of the space for prayer, learning, and community purposes.
  • Providing accurate information to people who wish to attend or visit.
  • Being a respectful presence in the surrounding neighborhood.

Community relevance

A reliable place of worship allows people to practice their faith together, helps families maintain religious traditions, and gives newcomers a place to connect with others who share their faith.

Prayer times and visiting: current prayer times, opening arrangements, and visitor information are provided by the association on request. Please contact us for up-to-date details. New to visiting a mosque? Read our Visitor Guide.

Activity 02

Religious and Spiritual Development

Purpose

Supporting religious and spiritual development helps individuals deepen their understanding of Islam and live their faith with sincerity and good character.

How the association supports it

  • Providing a setting in which worship, reflection, and religious learning can take place.
  • Encouraging respectful religious discussion grounded in sincerity and humility.
  • Helping community members connect their faith with conduct in family and public life.

Community relevance

Spiritual development strengthens individuals and families, supports the passing of faith between generations, and encourages ethical conduct that benefits everyone in the community.

Learning opportunities: if you would like to know whether any learning activities are currently available, please contact us.

Activity 03

Community Engagement

Purpose

Responsible community engagement helps the association build trust with the people it serves, with its neighbors, and with the wider Denver public.

What responsible engagement looks like

  • Welcoming questions from members, neighbors, and the public.
  • Communicating openly about the association's identity and activities.
  • Conducting activities with consideration for the surrounding community.
  • Encouraging respectful relationships among people of different backgrounds.

Community relevance

Good relationships between a religious community and its neighbors reduce misunderstanding, support a peaceful environment, and help the association serve its members well over time.

Activity 04

Donation Programs

Purpose

Donation programs allow members of the community to support the association's religious and community purposes. Charitable giving is also a valued practice in Islam, and many people wish to give to their local religious organization.

Responsible handling

  • Receiving donations in support of the association's nonprofit purposes.
  • Handling contributions carefully and keeping appropriate records.
  • Answering donors' questions honestly and directly.

Community relevance

Community donations help sustain a local place of worship and the association's other activities.

Online payments: this website does not process donations. To learn how to give, please read Community & Donations or email us.

Activity 05

Donated Property Activities

Purpose

Some supporters prefer to donate property rather than money. The association's identified activities include the sale of donated property. Selling property that has been donated allows a gift of goods to be converted into resources that support the association as a nonprofit organization.

How this relates to our nonprofit purpose

Donated property activities are a means of supporting the organization, not a commercial business. This website does not sell items online and does not operate a store. Questions about whether the association can accept a particular item, or about how donated property is handled, should be sent to the association directly.

Community relevance

Accepting donated property gives community members another way to contribute, especially those who may be able to give goods more easily than money.

Considering a property donation? Please email us with a short description of the item before arranging anything. We will let you know whether and how it can be accepted.
